Right now, lots of gamers are waiting with bated breath for the sequel to Nintendo’s Switch gaming console. But instead of dropping the Switch 2, Nintendo just came out with a different piece of hardware.

Take a look at Nintendo’s physical alarm clock, called Alarmo. And with Nintendo being Nintendo, it’s no surprise that this thing is more than just an alarm clock — it seems to gamify the very process of getting up in the morning, which could be helpful for gamers and non-gamers alike.

When Alarmo’s alarm is activated, it not only plays Nintendo music but also uses a sensor to detect your movements in bed and responds by playing sound effects from various games.

Once you’ve managed to get yourself out of bed, Alarmo plays a small fanfare to celebrate your success before switching the alarm off. But if you remain in bed, Alarmo gradually gets louder and more aggressive.

Alarmo comes with built-in alarm clocks inspired by Nintendo’s hottest games, including Super Mario Odyssey, Pikmin 4, Splatoon 3, Ring Fit Adventure, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Each title includes seven variations on its alarm (called “scenes”), each with its own combination of music and sound effects. You can also expect more alarms based on other games — like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons — to be added through free online updates.

By the way, Alarmo isn’t just for waking up. It can also play sleep sounds to help you wind down and fall asleep, it can record your sleep data, and it can play a chime at the top of every hour during the day.

Alarmo will initially launch in the US and Canada for $99.99, with later launches in other markets in early 2025.
