LinkedIn launches mobile job search iOS app

LinkedIn is offering a job search app for iOS devices, aimed at making it easier for users to find and be notified of jobs apart from LinkedIn’s main site.

The app aims to improve what is already a popular platform for looking at jobs: mobile. More than 40 percent of job views come from either LinkedIn’s main mobile app or its mobile website, the company said Thursday.

The app is currently available only in the U.S. for iOS, but an Android version will be coming later this year, LinkedIn said. There is not yet a solid time frame for other platforms such as Windows or BlackBerry.

LinkedIn’s main site already provides filtering search tools and ways to save searches and jobs. The new app provides these tools too, but will also notify users of jobs they might be interested in.

The app features four tabs at the bottom: search, discover, track and notifications. The discover tab surfaces jobs that are popular among those who have a profile similar to the user’s. Track lets people see the jobs they’ve viewed, saved and applied for.

Notifications will alert users when job listings they’ve saved are about to expire, when a recruiter has viewed their application or when there are new jobs that meet the search criteria, LinkedIn said.

The app also has some privacy features built in. By default no actions taken within the app will be shared with the person’s network on LinkedIn. For example, following a company or viewing a job poster’s profile are private within the new app, even if the user’s LinkedIn.com settings allow those actions to be broadcasted.

“Our goal is to help make this process easier for you and to help you be discreet,” the company said.
